Admissions

Application, Lottery and Student Enrollment Information School of Dreams Academy is a state authorized Valencia County based charter school open to any New Mexico resident, grades 7 – 9 for the academic year 2009 – 2010. A class will be added each year thereafter until the School of Dreams Academy reaches grades 7 – 12 status. It does not charge tuition or have admission requirements. All applicants will have an equal chance to gain admission to the school. All students, including English Language Learners, and those requiring special education and related services, will have the benefit of an individualized learning plan designed to address their specific needs and to meet their individual goals within the learning spectrum.

If there are enough spaces at a given grade level, all applicants will be admitted. If there are more applicants than spaces available, admission will be determined through a lottery. Applications are continued to be accepted and are available on this website. Applications may also be obtained at the YDI Valencia Office, 428 Los Lentes Road SE, Los Lunas, NM 87031. The first four enrollments have taken place, including a lottery on June 13, 2009. The enrollment is currently at 125 students, with a waiting list.

Waiting List:

The names of any students not admitted during the final enrollment window will be kept on a waiting list. Parents will be notified as to their child’s position on the waiting list. It will also be posted on the SODA web site. As spaces open up families will be contacted in waiting list order.

Lottery Procedure:

Student names will be categorized in a database based on the grade they will be entering in 2009-2010. For a given grade level, if there are more spaces than student applications, all students will be accepted. If there are more applications than spaces, all the student names for that grade level will be entered into a lottery. On the day of the lottery, student names for a given grade level will be put into a hopper and pulled out one by one. The first name pulled will be assigned number one, the second name

Sibling Rule (BEGINNING 2010-2011) After all grade levels are filled, siblings of admitted students will also be admitted, even if this means over-enrolling their grade levels. The purpose of this policy is to allow families to keep their children together at the same school. Verification of sibling relationship is required. A sibling is defined as a brother or sister born to parents, a half or step sibling, or a foster child or student under legal guardianship of parent(s) of a child who has won a space through the lottery.

When school opens in August 2009, any student who does not show by day three will lose his/her place to the next student on the waiting list.
