AcademicsThe School of Dreams Academy’s curriculum is based on providing students with a challenging learning environment by providing excellence in the core subject areas, opportunities for experiencing the arts, a culture that fosters positive character traits, and an opportunity to make meaningful contributions to the community through learning experiences. Every student at School of Dreams Academy will have the skills necessary for success in post secondary education. The School of Dreams Academy wants students to be competitive academically at these institutions. The school has designed an extremely rigorous and comprehensive course of study. The School of Dreams Academy will require students to respect others, be self-disciplined, work hard, and be goal oriented. Failure at School of Dreams Academy is not an option. The School of Dreams Academy is an Accelerated School. “Accelerated” means students will have to learn how to work smarter as well as harder if they hope to succeed academically at School of Dreams Academy. Students wishing to accelerate through the curriculum will be allowed to do so if it is in their best interest and documented in their individual learning plan. Concurrent enrollment in college or other post secondary institutions may be an option for those students who have accelerated through the curriculum. School of Dreams Academy will instill in students the belief “failure is not an option” and will provide a caring and supportive learning environment. The School of Dreams Academy will provide intense intervention with one-on-one tutoring free of charge to students both during the day and after school to provide students with mastery of basic skills and core knowledge to form a strong foundation for higher learning. The intervention program will begin in September and end in May. A 20-day summer session will be required for students who are below grade level or who may be in need of credit recovery. The summer session will also be made available to students who wish to accelerate through E2020, complete hours for service learning projects, or obtain elective credit in the arts. Every effort will be made to inform parents/caretakers of every aspect of their child’s education and the functions of the school. The result is an empowered parent body. Parents will be active in providing their children with the support and proper environment at home that their child needs to succeed. They will model for their children the importance of school by volunteering two hours each month. Their presence and support is central to the overall success of student achievement.
